Faculty from the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care staff
the Tuberculosis Clinic at San Francisco General Hospital. These
experts in tuberculosis diagnose and treat patients with active
tuberculosis (including drug-resistant disease), latent tuberculosis
infection, contacts to tuberculosis patients, HIV-infected patients
with tuberculosis, new immigrants to the United States who are
screened for tuberculosis, and large numbers of indigent patients
(e.g. homeless persons) who are screened for tuberculosis. The
Tuberculosis Clinic is operated by the City and County of San
Francisco and sees several thousand patients per year. The Clinic
has a long tradition of excellence and has trained many physicians
who are now in prominent positions in tuberculosis control throughout
the world. Pulmonary fellows work once-weekly in the clinic and
attend the weekly case conference while at San Francisco General
Hospital and have unanimously enjoyed this experience.
