Major research activities of the Division can also be accessed through the Biosketches of individual faculty.
AIDS-related Pulmonary Disease Studies- San Francisco General Hospital is participating in several clinical research studies involving HIV-infected patients with Pneumocystis carinii Pneumonia (PCP).
Lung Biology Center- The mission of the Lung Biology Center (LBC) is to use cell and molecular biology to study important questions about diseases of the lung and airways. The Lung Biology Center is a division of the Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and is based at the San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center campus.
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Clinical Network
Asthma Clinical Research Center- The UCSF Asthma Research Center needs participants for asthma research studies. Studies are sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and pharmaceutical companies
GALA Project- To ensure that underserved communities benefit from the recent advances which have resulted from the Human Genome project we are studying ethnic specific genetic risk factors for asthma and asthma severity among Latino and African American asthmatics
Tuberculosis Research at San Francisco General Hospital- There is a wide variety of research on tuberculosis based at San Francisco General Hospital and at the San Francisco Tuberculosis Clinic. Research on tuberculosis includes both patient-based as well as laboratory-based investigations.
Interstitial Lung Disease Center of Excellence- Investigators at Moffitt-Long and San Francisco General Hospitals pursue a broad spectrum of research including analysis of lung tissues and fluids, clarification of molecular pathways using animal models, and identification of mechanisms that underlie lung tissue remodeling.
Respiratory Epidemiology Group - We are an interdisciplinary group of investigators who study the epidemiology and health outcomes of pulmonary diseases. Our mission is to apply state-of-the-art epidemiologic and biostatistical methods to study health outcomes in a broad array of pulmonary diseases, to identify risk factors for adverse health outcomes among persons with chronic pulmonary diseases, and to translate science into policy aimed at reducing the global burden of respiratory disease
