• 1968 appointed the first Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Diseases in the Department of Medicine, UCSF
• Lobbied Congress to rename the National Heart Institute to the National Heart and Lung Institute
• Co-Editor of the Murray/Nadel Textbook of Respiratory Medicine
